Wesselhoft Files for State Senate Seat (Jun 13, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A state representative from Moore is the only person to file for a retiring state senator's seat on the first day of a three-day filing period.

Republican Paul Wesselhoft on Monday declared his candidacy for the District 43 seat of Republican Sen. Jim Reynolds, who is leaving on July 1 to become the treasurer of Cleveland County.

Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax says the 63-year-old Wesselhoft is so far the only candidate for the seat. The filing period for the special election ends Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the state Capitol.

The primary election is set for Aug. 9 with a general election on Oct. 11.

Reynolds' district includes portions of Oklahoma and Cleveland counties. Whoever wins will serve a little more than one year remaining of Reynolds' unexpired term.
