2nd Republican Files for Senate Seat (Jun 14, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A second Republican has filed as a candidate in a special election for a seat in the Oklahoma Senate.

Greg Childers of Del City filed Tuesday for the Senate's District 43 seat. The three-day filing period for the special election ends on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Childers is seeking the seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Jim Reynolds of Oklahoma City, who is leaving July 1 to become Cleveland County treasurer.

Republican state Rep. Paul Wesselhoft of Moore declared his candidacy on Monday. No Democrats have filed for the seat.

The primary election is set for Aug. 9 with a general election on Oct. 11. Reynolds' district includes parts of Oklahoma and Cleveland counties.

The winner will serve a little more than one year remaining of Reynolds' unexpired term.
