Okla. Disaster Survivors Offered Food Assistance (Jun 22, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is offering emergency food benefits to households in seven counties that were affected by severe storms and tornadoes that hit the state May 22 through May 25.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service has authorized DHS to run the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program from Friday through June 30 in Caddo, Canadian, Delaware, Grady, Kingfisher, Logan and McClain counties. Interviews will be conducted by DHS staff at offices in those counties.

SNAP program manager Kathie Wright says those applying for the benefit must have been living in the disaster area when the storms occurred.

Those applying for help must meet an income and liquid resource requirement in order to qualify.
