Mustang Residents Asked to Boil Water (Jun 27, 2011)

MUSTANG, Okla. (AP) — The city of Mustang has issued an alert for residents to boil water before using after fecal coliform bacteria was found at one testing site.

Mayor Jeff Landrith said Sunday that a citywide telephone message to inform residents of the boil alert was sent about 5 p.m. Sunday.

Landrith said the city tested 18 areas and one tested positive for the bacteria. He says the boil alert will remain in effect until testing at the site shows the water is free of bacteria.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's website says fecal coliform indicates the possible presence of other bacteria that can cause disease ranging generally from cramps to diarrhea.
