OU Dedicates New Cancer Center During Ceremony (Jun 30, 2011) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The University of Oklahoma has dedicated the $165 million Peggy and Charles Stephenson Oklahoma Cancer Center. Columbia University cancer physician and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Siddhartha Mukherjee spoke Thursday morning during a ceremony at the Cancer Center in Oklahoma City. He says buildings like the center represent the kind of urgency that treating cancer demands. He ended his talk with a moment of silence to remember cancer victims. The Cancer Center officially will open on July 18. There's already a branch of the center on the university's Tulsa campus. The Stephensons gave $12 million toward the construction of the Cancer Center. That donation last year was the largest one-time gift in the history of the Health Sciences Center and the third multimillion-dollar gift the couple has made to OU since 2002. « back |
