Pilot Killed in Crash at Oklahoma City Airpark (Jun 30, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Authorities say one person was killed when a small airplane crashed at a northwest Oklahoma City airpark.

Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow says officers received an emergency call from Sundance Airpark about 1:47 p.m. Thursday. Wardlow says the caller told officers the aircraft came down hard.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says it was initially thought that two people were on board, but officials later learned that the only occupant was the pilot. Herwig says the plane is a 1991 single-engine, fixed-wing Lancair.

The pilot's identity wasn't immediately released. FAA records showed the aircraft is registered to an individual in Lexington, Ky.

Herwig says the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident.
