House Approves 80 Interim Study Requests (Jul 08, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma House members will examine issues ranging from gun rights to public education in 80 different interim studies that have been approved by House Speaker Kris Steele.

Steele approved the studies on Friday from a list of 126 that were requested by House members.

The topics are assigned to various committees that will schedule experts for testimony and discuss ideas for legislation before the session begins in February.

Among the topics approved for study are the rights of gun owners, taxpayer funding of abortion rights groups, health care, education and government operations.

Steele says he plans this year to require a report be compiled on each study topic that is publicly posted and archived. Meetings will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning in August.
