Cherokee Nation Tribal Counil Meeting on Election Today (Jul 12, 2011)

A Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meeting has been called for this afternoon to possibly deal with the upcoming runoff election. The council is set to possibly choose an independent election services company to operate the July 23 race.

The council members could also hear discussions related to the troubled election for Principal Chief. The campaign of Bill John Baker has made accusations of vote tampering the by the current electoral contractor.

Incumbent Principal Chief Chad Smith has called the accusations a “vicious attack filled with lies.”
