Okla. Water Plan to Define 'Surplus Water' (Jul 12, 2011) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — State water officials say a comprehensive water plan for Oklahoma due out in October should include a definition of "excess and surplus water" that would include projected local water needs through 2060. Officials said Tuesday the definition should also include a 10 percent cushion for unforeseen decreases in availability. The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is developing a plan for the state's water that will include suggested guidelines for when water can be transferred from one area of the state to another, or even to another state. A North Texas water district has unsuccessfully tried to gain access to billions of gallons of water from three tributaries in far southern Oklahoma. « back |
