Oklahoma Voices: May 24 Storm Postmortem (Jul 17, 2011)
The May 24 tornado outbreak in central Oklahoma followed earlier twisters that hit the southern U.S. and Joplin, MO, bringing increased attention to fatal storms across the nation. KGOU’s Kurt Gwartney talks with two of the people charged with keeping Oklahomans safe during the multiple powerful, long track tornadoes that swept across the Oklahoma City metro area during the afternoon drive time. Mike Foster, meteorologist in charge, and Rick Smith, warning coordination meteorologist, at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Norman talk about the decisions made in the days before and during the storms, and what can be done to improve public safety.
