Barresi Opposes CareerTech Supplemental Appropriation (Jul 22, 2011)

State schools superintendent Janet Barresi says she does not want the Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education, which she chairs, to seek additional money from lawmakers this fiscal year.

The chief financial office for the CareerTech system presented a possible 6-point-3 million dollar supplemental appropriation for the current fiscal year, with most of that money going to pay health benefits.

Board members took no action on the proposal, which was opposed by Barresi.

According to E-Capitol, the CareerTech board started discussions Thursday about the future needs of its programs in preparation for a fiscal year 2013 budget request.
