Democratic Appointee Resigns From Ed Board (Jul 28, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former Democratic state senator has resigned his position on the Oklahoma State Board of Education.

The governor's office confirmed Thursday that Herb Rozell of Tahlequah submitted his resignation last month. Thursday was the first meeting of the board since Rozell resigned.

Rozell is an appointee of former Democratic Gov. Brad Henry.

Republican lawmakers have since passed a new law that allows the governor to replace the seven-member board after taking office.

Gov. Mary Fallin has not named a replacement for Rozell.
