Two Oklahoma Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan (Aug 01, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The U.S. Department of Defense says two Oklahoma National Guard soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

The department said in a news release Sunday that 33-year-old 2nd Lt. Jered Ewy of Edmond and 22-year-old Spc. Augustus Vicari of Broken Arrow died Friday when their unit was attacked with homemade bombs.

Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and were part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team that left for Afghanistan in June.

The Oklahoma National Guard issued a statement saying that two other soldiers with the Oklahoma guard and one from the Mississippi Air National Guard were wounded in the same attack.
