Weekly Arts & Entertainment Highlights (Aug 04, 2011)

Inspired by prime-time television ‘dance’ shows? Want to get a little closer to the action?? This weekend offers just such an opportunity, & more...

30 local dancers selected by audition along with four Oklahoma dance companies participate in the 5th annual Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival this Friday and Saturday. This year marks the first time a collaborative effort has been made between the four Oklahoma City based dance companies. The festival is held in the OCCC Bruce Owen Theatre and begins nightly at 8:00 p.m.

For the dog lover, the Contemporary Art Gallery on the Paseo opens a new exhibit called “Canine Companions” this Friday evening. Mixed media painter Diana J. Smith is the featured artist and proceeds from the exhibit go to the Central Oklahoma Humane Society.

The rest of this weekend’s lineup is full of variety: a free concert in the park; an educational night with bats; classic Shakesepeare; a volunteer opportunity; and a car show.

And just as a quick reminder, Friday starts off the state wide tax free weekend for back-to-school shoppers.

More upcoming Oklahoma events can be found here on our online calendar listing.
