Storms Bring Badly-needed Rain to Area (Aug 09, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Strong thunderstorms that rumbled across central Oklahoma brought much-needed rain to water-starved areas, but also damaged several homes and businesses and cut power to thousands of customers.

One person was reported injured by the Monday night storms — an alarm system technician who was struck by a falling awning while working outside a store in Oklahoma City. Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Lara O'Leary said the man was taken to a hospital in good condition with a leg injury.

More than 16,600 power outages were reported by Oklahoma Gas and Electric on its website late Tuesday morning — down from more than 46,000 Monday night. Rural electric cooperatives reported about 2,100 outages Tuesday while Public Service Company of Oklahoma was reporting all service had been restored.
