Former State Representative Dies at Age 85 (Aug 09, 2011)

ALTUS, Okla. (AP) — State officials say former state Rep. Howard Cotner has died at the age of 85.

The Oklahoma House confirmed Tuesday that that Altus Democrat died Monday at a hospital in Lawton after suffering a heart attack.

Cotner served in the House from 1971 to 1996. Gov. Mary Fallin, who served in the House with Cotner, says he was deeply committed to serving the people of the state and represented his constituents well.

House Speaker Kris Steele called Cotner a model legislator and a man of integrity whose commitment to public service was deep, genuine and tremendously appreciated by his colleagues and constituents alike. Steele says Cotner's wisdom will be greatly missed.

His funeral is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Altus.
