EDMOND, Okla. (AP) — An estimated 1,600 people turned out for the funeral of an Oklahoma National Guard soldier from Edmond who was killed in action in Afghanistan.

Services were held Thursday at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond for 33-year-old 2nd Lt. Jered Ewy.

The military says Ewy was killed July 29 with 22-year-old Oklahoma National Guard Spc. Augustus Vicari of Broken Arrow at Paktia, Afghanistan, when their unit was attacked with homemade bombs.

Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and were part of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team that left for Afghanistan in June.

Services for Vicari were held Tuesday in his home state of Indiana.
