Inhofe Says He's 'Certain' GOP Will Take U.S. Senate (Aug 30, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe says he's "absolutely certain" Republicans will take control of the U.S.Senate after the 2012 elections, and that he expects to seek a fourth six-year term in office when his current term expires in 2014.

The 76-year-old Republican said Tuesday he believes it's important to remain in office because if Republicans take control of the Senate, he will become the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

Inhofe also is the second ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee behind Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)

Democrats currently enjoy a 51-47 advantage over Republicans in the Senate, with two Independents who caucus with the Democrats.

Inhofe spoke to reporters Tuesday before addressing a conference of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization.
