Drought Showing "Long-Term" Signs (Aug 31, 2011)

Oklahoma’s associate state climatologist says the current dry spell is showing the “classic signature” of a long drawn-out drought.

Climatologist Gary McManus said the current drought began nearly a year ago when a La Nina weather pattern formed in the Pacific Ocean, before dissipating in the spring.

E-Capitol reports McManus saying signs are starting to show the development of a new La Nina pattern. State officials gathered in Oklahoma City Tuesday for a drought summit.
