Authorities Surveying Fire Damage (Aug 31, 2011)

Oklahoma City firefighters are monitoring the aftermath of a large fire that destroyed several homes, burned a church and left four people with minor injuries.

Battalion Chief Felton Morgan said Wednesday that it appears blowing embers started the fire that destroyed the church in northeast Oklahoma City early Wednesday morning.

Morgan said fire officials are waiting to survey the area by helicopter and determine what needs to be done next.

A spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services Authority says two firefighters and two residents suffered minor injuries.

An American Red Cross spokesman says eight people forced from their homes because of the fire spent the night at a Red Cross shelter.
