Fire Crews Tackle Flare-Up of Oklahoma City Blaze (Aug 31, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma City firefighters are tackling a flare-up of a wildfire that destroyed at least 33 homes and are responding to a new blaze on the south side.

Fire department spokeswoman Janice Pulliam said Wednesday no injuries had been reported with either fire, but some homes were burned in the flare-up near Hefner Road and Midwest Boulevard. Pulliam says the second blaze was located in southeast Oklahoma City near SE 44th Street and Westminster.

Deputy Chief Marc Woodard said earlier about 3,000 acres burned in Tuesday's fire.

Meanwhile, crews were battling a fire in the Twin Lakes area in Shawnee, east of Oklahoma City.

Pottawatomie County emergency management technician Jennifer Dawson said officials received a call about noon. Dawson said there are no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage. She said some homes were being evacuated.
