Oklahoma Gas and Electric to Resume Power Cutoffs (Sep 01, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Gas and Electric has announced plans to resume the disconnection of electric service if electric bills are not paid.

OG&E suspended power cutoffs in June to its customers in Oklahoma and in western Arkansas due to nonpayment because of the extreme heat. The company announced in a news release that the disconnection of service due to nonpayment will resume Tuesday.

Regulatory rules in Oklahoma and Arkansas prohibit utilities from disconnecting electric service during periods of extreme heat.

OG&E spokesman Brian Alford said the company will work with customers to establish a payment plan if needed and will give customers up to six months to pay their bills.
