Okla. Senator Renews Redistricting Challenge (Sep 06, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma lawmaker is renewing his legal challenge alleging the state Senate district lines approved by the Legislature this year are unconstitutional and the result of political gerrymandering.

Sen. Jim Wilson of Tahlequah filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court. He is asking the court to grant a preliminary injunction to stop the new Senate boundaries from taking effect.

Wilson previously challenged the new district lines in the Oklahoma Supreme Court, which ruled last week the new districts complied with population requirements outlined in the state Constitution. But the court also suggested in its ruling that claims of political gerrymandering should be determined in district court.
