Oklahoma Remembers 9/11 Terror Attacks, Victims (Sep 12, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The emotional link people feel between the 1995 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City and the 2001 terror attacks in the northeast is unmistakable.

But the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum kept a low profile on Sunday so families touched by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks could focus on what happened in their own lives.

A ceremony was organized in Tulsa. Former Tulsa Mayor Susan Savage told several hundred people who turned out that freedom is the best defense against terror.

Savage says people going about their ordinary business send the message that freedom is a potent threat against the nation's enemies.

Gov. Mary Fallin released a statement saying the resilience and compassion of ordinary people that followed the bombings shows the country is undaunted.
