Okla. Dems Call for IRS Probe of Labor Official (Sep 20, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party is calling for an Internal Revenue Service probe over an advocacy group launched by Republican Labor Commissioner Mark Costello.

Chairman Wallace Collins said Tuesday he filed a formal complaint with the IRS over a nonprofit advocacy group Parity in Oklahoma created by Costello.

Collins claims the group violates several provisions of the IRS code, including a direct benefit to Costello and a prohibition of partisanship.

Costello says he's been careful to follow all IRS rules and accused Collins of "political theater."

Costello says the 501(c)(4) will push for a longer probationary period for state workers and the elimination of having union and association dues automatically deducted from state worker paycheck.
