Okla. Low in New Health Report (Sep 21, 2011) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A report on the overall health of the states by the United Health Foundation ranks Oklahoma among the worst in the nation in various health categories. State Board of Health president Dr. Jenny Alexopulos said the state's rate of 933 deaths per 100,000 residents is "staggering." The national death rate is 760 per 100,000. The report released Tuesday gives the state and "F" for deaths due to heart disease, stroke and injuries, and an "F" for the prevalence of diabetes, lack of physical activity and smoking. The study also found 32 percent of Oklahomans are considered obese - compared to about 27 percent nationwide and 25.5 percent of Oklahomans smoke - compared to a national smoking rate of 17.9 percent.
