Coburn Urges Supercommittee to Include Fraud Prevention Language (Sep 29, 2011)
WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and a Democratic colleague sent a letter today to the so-called “Supercommittee” urging them to include measures they say would reduce waste and fraud in Medicare and Medicaid spending.

Coburn and U.S. Sen. Tom Carper’s (D-DE) letter requests the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction include provisions of their June 2011 Fighting Fraud and Abuse to Save Taxpayer Dollars…or “FAST” Act.

The letter cites estimates from the Department of Health and Human Services indicating the two programs made an estimated $70 billion in improper payments in Fiscal Year 2010.

The Senators say the bill does not make changes to coverage for beneficiaries or change medical service pricing.
