Okla. Legislative Panel to Study Health Care Law (Nov 03, 2011)

JENKS, Okla. (AP) - A legislative panel studying how the new federal health care law will affect Oklahoma held its fourth meeting Thursday in Tulsa.

The 10 House and Senate members on the Joint Committee on Federal Health Care Law heard presentations on health care exchanges, or online marketplaces for residents to shop for and buy health insurance.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires that each state has a health care exchange set up by 2014.

Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled Legislature balked at a plan to accept $54 million in federal money to set up the state exchange, in part because of bitter opposition from tea party activists and other conservatives.
