Inhofe Supports Carson's Counsel Nomination (Nov 17, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) has announced his support for the nomination of former Rep. Brad Carson as General Counsel of the U.S. Army.

Carson is a Democrat who was nominated in September by President Barack Obama to be the Army's top lawyer. Inhofe is a Republican and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee that is considering the nomination.

Inhofe said in a statement released Thursday that Carson clearly is committed to doing what is best for the military.

Carson was Oklahoma's Second District congressman from 2001 through 2004 when he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate against U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK).

He is also an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and served in Iraq in 2009 and 2010 where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
