Two Cases Filed Seeking Review of ME's Findings (Nov 29, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (eCapitol) - So far two cases have been filed that want to review findings from the State Medical Examiner’s office under a law that went into effect this month.

Senate Bill 250…also known as the Chanda Turner Reform Act, allows a spouse or a parent, sibling, or child to appeal the ME’s findings to the Board of Medicolegal Investigations within a year of the report’s completion.

It also allows the spouse or relative to appeal the board’s written findings to the Oklahoma County District Court. Donna and Joe Turner have filed a petition to review the death of their daughter Chanda, after whom the bill is named.

She was found shot to death in her home in Pauls Valley in 2000. Her death was ruled a suicide.

The parents of Katrina Rivera-Hill are also seeking a review. Her 2009 death after exiting a moving vehicle was also ruled a suicide.
