Panel OKs $50 fee for Oklahoma Assessor Records (Dec 01, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A state board has approved a new fee schedule that will allow county assessors to charge up to $50-per-hour for companies seeking local property data.

The State Board of Equalization voted unanimously on Thursday to authorize assessors in all 77 Oklahoma counties to impose the charge on those seeking the data for commercial purposes. The fee is authorized for custom requests and for "data dumps" when the office downloads large amounts of data onto a disc.

State Auditor and Inspector Gary Jones held several meetings with county assessors and Oklahoma businesses to determine reasonable fees to charge for search and production costs associated with requests for the data.

The fees do not apply to individual property owners obtaining information on their own property.
