Okla. Political Hopefuls File for Open Seats (Dec 05, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Political hopefuls are filing paperwork to run for two open state Senate seats and a vacant House post.

The three-day filing period began Monday for Senate District 20 in north-central Oklahoma, Senate District 46 in central Oklahoma City and House District 71 in Tulsa.

Senate District 20 was left open following last month's death of Republican state Sen. David Myers of Ponca City. Democratic state Sen. Andrew Rice is leaving his Senate District 46 seat that includes downtown Oklahoma City and moving to Tennessee. And Republican state Rep. Dan Sullivan is leaving his House post to take a position as the head of the Grand River Dam Authority.

Hopefuls running for all three seats will run in the new districts that were approved by the Legislature earlier this year.
