Hearing Postponed for Okla. Lawmaker, Ex-Senator (Dec 09, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A court hearing for a state lawmaker and a former state senator accused of bribery has been postponed.

State Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore and former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City were scheduled to appear in Oklahoma County District Court Friday to be formally bound over for trial on the charges. But the hearing was postponed until Feb. 24 to give prosecutors more time to appeal a ruling on a related conspiracy allegation.

Special Judge Stephen Alcorn has ruled there is sufficient evidence to try Terrill and Leftwich for bribery but not conspiracy. Prosecutors appealed Alcorn's ruling on the conspiracy allegation, but on Monday District Judge Ray Elliott denied a prosecutor's request to authorize conspiracy charges.

Prosecutors now plan to appeal to the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals.
