Academy Urges Caution with Income Tax Cut (Dec 12, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A nonpartisan public policy group that recently held a town hall forum on ways to improve Oklahoma's economy is urging lawmakers not to eliminate the state's income tax without further study.

The Oklahoma Academy on Monday released its list of recommendations to improve Oklahoma's economic development and prosperity. It suggests not eliminating the state income tax without developing a budget-neutral strategy.

The group in October hosted a three-day town hall with a diverse group of participants from across the state to help develop suggested policies.

Among the other recommendations are the creation of a workforce master plan, a $1 billion state bond issue dedicated to funding research and development and further changes to the state's workers' compensation system.
