SE Neb. Fuel Pipeline Breaks Repaired (Dec 12, 2011)

NEMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The fuel pipelines that ruptured over the weekend and spilled 252,000 gallons in southeast Nebraska have been repaired.

Magellan Midstream Partners spokesman Bruce Heine said the Tulsa, Okla., company expects to resume shipping diesel and gasoline through those pipelines later Monday.

Heine and state officials say the fuel that spilled from the pipelines has been contained, and cleanup work has begun. Some of the spilled fuel got into a small creek southwest of Nemaha, but most of it appears to have been spilled on land, which is easier to clean up.

The pipeline breach was caused by a landowner striking the pipes with a bulldozer.

Statistics from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration show that this is the worst pipeline spill in Nebraska since 2001.
