Inhofe: Defense Bill Could Threaten Tinker Work (Dec 16, 2011)

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) says last minute changes to the 2012 defense bill could put some work at installations like Tinker Air Force Base and the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant at risk.

A written statement on the Senator’s website says Inhofe supports the National Defense Authorization Act, but is concerned language changes by the House would allow private contractors to perform work “essential to military readiness.”

Lawmakers like Inhofe have regularly protected this “core work” at bases in areas they represent.

Inhofe, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, says he wants an analysis of the new language and will work to “rectify the problem.”
