OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The board that oversees health insurance coverage for thousands of state workers and teachers has approved a new prescription drug plan as part of an agreement with local pharmacy groups.

Oklahoma State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board Administrator Frank Wilson says the new plan approved on Friday is projected to result in $33 million in total savings for the plan and for individual members.

The board previously approved a plan with a preferred network of pharmacies and a mail-order service for certain medications that sparked outrage from smaller, independent pharmacies who claimed it would harm their businesses. The original plan was expected to result in about $15 million in overall savings.

Gov. Mary Fallin praised OSEEGIB and local pharmacists for working to develop the new plan.
