Wounded Oklahoma Medic Receives Purple Heart (Dec 23, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma medic who was wounded after an improvised explosive device hit her convoy overseas has been awarded the Purple Heart.

The Tulsa World reports that Spc. Ashley Jones of Cleveland, Okla., received the military honor after her right leg was amputated below the knee.

The newspaper says she was the first amputee in Oklahoma's Army National Guard 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team after she was injured on Dec. 18.
