More Oklahomans Hitting the Road for Holiday (Dec 23, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Travel officials expect an increase in motorists and a decrease in air travel this holiday season, but airport officials in Oklahoma hope the state's three bowl-bound football teams give the state a boost in airport traffic over the coming days.

The No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys will play in their first-ever BCS bowl when they face No. 4 Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The University of Oklahoma and University of Tulsa also are traveling to bowl games this year on Jan. 30.

AAA Oklahoma predicts the number of motorists traveling 50 miles or more from home is expected to jump by 3.2 percent over 2010 figures, while the number of those taking to the skies is expected to drop by 6.5 percent.
