Two Air Force Personnel Killed in OKC Car Crash (Dec 26, 2011)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Police say two people were killed when their vehicle slammed into a bridge embankment on U.S. Highway 77 north of Interstate 235 in Oklahoma City.

Capt. Dee Patty says the vehicle was traveling north on the highway, also known as the Broadway Extension, when the driver lost control and hit the embankment after 3 a.m. Monday. Patty says a high rate of speed was a contributing factor in the wreck.

She says the victims were active-duty Air Force members, but she didn't know if they were stationed in Oklahoma City or were visiting. Patty says Air Force officials are notifying the victims' relatives, and their names were being withheld until then.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed while emergency officials conducted an investigation.
