Cole: Defense Cuts Due to Overspending in Other Areas (Jan 05, 2012)

WASHINGTON - President Obama insists the United States will maintain what he calls the best-equipped military in history despite deep and looming defense budget cuts.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK4) says those cuts though are due to the administration’s overspending in other areas, rather than a military that’s too large or overfunded.

"The reductions in the size of our ground forces will force the United States to continue its overreliance on the Reserve and the National Guard -- two forces that have been deployed continuously because our regular forces are simply too small to meet all the missions they have been asked to undertake," Cole said.

Cole will visit the Pacific region next week as part of a congressional delegation examining the shift of U-S forces to the region.
