Okla. AG Says Reports Should Be Public Record (Jan 11, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY - Attorney General Scott Pruitt is telling police departments that initial offense reports or cover sheets should be open to the public.

Pruitt has written a letter to the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police after receiving a number of complaints that police officials are withholding information that should be available under the Oklahoma Open Records Act.

Pruitt’s letter says the Legislature has made it clear the initial reports should be available for public inspection “regardless of its inclusion in an investigation file.”
