2.1 Million Tons Shipped From Port of Catoosa (Jan 23, 2012)

CATOOSA, Okla. (AP) - The Tulsa Port of Catoosa says more than 2.1 million tons of cargo was shipped from the port in in 2011.

The port says it posted the highest shipping figures of the year in December, when waterway shipping was almost 261,000 tons carried in 137 barges. The higher volumes were due to substantial increases in outbound shipments of wheat, petroleum products and asphalt.

The second highest shipping month for the year was in January when 228,000 tons were shipped through the port.

For the year, more than 2.1 million tons of cargo was shipped in 1,249 barges. The port has topped the 2-million-ton volume each year for the past 10 years except in 2005.

The 2,500-acre port is home to more than 60 companies that employ more than 3,000 people.
