New Jail to Open in Cleveland County (Jan 27, 2012)

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - A $26 million jail is slated to open in Oklahoma's Cleveland County.

The Norman Transcript reports that F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center will open on Friday, but the cells will be empty.

Sheriff's deputies are expected to move inmates to the new jail in early February.

The new facility, which is funded by sales tax dollars approved by voters, can hold up to 542 prisoners.

It will have about 85 employees, compared to 40 at the old jail.
