Memorial Service Set for Okla. Journalist (Feb 21, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A memorial service for Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Anthony Shadid is scheduled for March 3 in Oklahoma City.

According to a statement Tuesday from the City of Oklahoma City, the service will be at 2 p.m. at the Civic Center Music Hall downtown. A city official says the service was planned by Shadid's family.

Shadid died of an apparent asthma attack Thursday while on assignment for the New York Times in Syria.

He was known for his coverage of wars and conflicts in the Middle East and was awarded Pulitzer Prizes in 2004 and 2010.

Shadid also wrote for The Associated Press and the Boston Globe.

The 43-year-old was a native of Oklahoma City and members of his family still live there. His cousin, Ed Shadid, is a City Council member.
