OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A federal judge has rejected a defense request for a mistrial in the corruption trial against the former leader of the Oklahoma Senate.

On Tuesday morning, Judge Robin Cauthron denied a motion for a mistrial in the case of former Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan, who faces bribery, extortion and mail fraud charges.

Morgan was accused of conspiring with lobbyist William Skeith and attorney N. Martin Stringer to illegally accept more than $400,000 from three companies that sought his influence on pending legislation between 2005 and 2008.

Skeith and Stringer were charged with conspiracy, extortion and mail fraud, but Cauthron dismissed all charges against Skeith and 32 charges against Stringer. The judge dismissed the conspiracy count against Morgan on Monday.
