Oklahoma Receives $381,311 to Help Homeless Vets (Mar 28, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Three housing agencies in Oklahoma will split $381,311 in Department of Housing and Urban Development funding to supply permanent housing and case management for 90 homeless veterans.

HUD officials said Tuesday's award brings to 345 the number of vouchers awarded to Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency will receive $146,172; $142,857 will go to the Housing Authority of the City of Oklahoma City and the Housing Authority of the City of Muskogee is to receive $92,282.

HUD officials say the permanent supportive housing assistance is provided through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program, which is administered by HUD, the Department of Veterans Affairs and local public housing agencies nationwide.

Officials say program participants rent privately owned housing and generally contribute 30 percent or less of their income toward rent.
