Pruitt Recommends Appeal of Abortion Decision (Mar 30, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Attorney General Scott Pruitt says he's recommending the state appeal a ruling that struck down a law requiring women seeking abortions to have an ultrasound image placed in front of them and listen to a detailed description of the fetus.

Pruitt said Friday that the law is about presenting abortion accurately with full information about the outcome. He says the state has an obligation to protect citizens and make sure abortion is held to the same standard as any medically informed decision.

Oklahoma County District Judge Bryan Dixon ruled on Wednesday that the statute passed by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2010 was an unconstitutional special law and was unenforceable.

It was challenged by the New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights on behalf of abortion providers.
