Filing Period Reaches Second Day (Apr 12, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An additional 37 candidates have filed to run for Congress, the Legislature and other offices in this year's elections in Oklahoma.

Filing resumed Thursday at the State Capitol. The additional filings bring the total number of candidates whose names will appear on ballots to 229. A total of 192 candidates filed on Wednesday, the first day of the three-day filing period.

Elected positions include all of Oklahoma's five congressional districts, all 101 members of the state House and half of the 48-member Senate. Also on the ballot this year are two seats on the three-member Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

The filing period ends Friday. Republican and Democratic party primaries are set for June 26, and any runoffs will be conducted on Aug. 28.

The general election is scheduled for Nov. 6.
