State House Approves Abortion Lawsuit Bill (May 03, 2012)

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma House has approved another anti-abortion bill that paves the way for more lawsuits against abortion providers.

The House on Wednesday approved the Senate amendments to the bill and then voted 89-0 to send the measure to the governor. Several abortion rights supporters in the House were not on the floor when the vote took place.

The bill permits a woman to sue an abortion provider if the doctor does not follow informed consent provisions of state law. The bill also allows lawsuits against the prescriber of abortion-inducing drugs and against the person or entity that referred the woman to the provider, in certain cases.

It is one of several anti-abortion measures sent this year to Gov. Mary Fallin, who opposes abortion.
